I received a faceplate I ordered for a monome clone I’ve been wrestling with for the last few months in the mail today. I’m not impressed. I think I could have had this made at Ponoko or FrontPanelExpress out of the same material, with the same dimensions, for less money. But fuck it. I just want to get these two things built so I can get some regular sleep. I need to get some fancy wood and stain, but first I’m still wiring my weird 4 shruthi synth. Using individual wires became too difficult. I switched to ribbon cables.

I have to say I was very impressed with how quickly I received these. I have three copies of these two PCBs for about 46 bucks. It’s a great way for the hobbyist to benefit from all those open source brd files floating around the net. Be warned, though. The people who provide the files often will sell you these PCBs for less than it costs for a hobbyist to have them manufactured.

I pulled my vine in from the cold and it seems to be doing much better. Something was eating it and I think it needs repotting. The leaves look a bit burned, but on the other hand the new growth looks fine. Ok, I still have several hours of work left, but I’m almost there. If this was a movie, we’re about 30 minutes in, viewers have already been introduced to a love interest and background characters. My, seemingly perfect, life is somehow inexorably altered by antagonist and I have chosen to fight back using whatever skills I’ve either gained DURING or developed before said change.
